FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 18, 2012 - Visible Computing Ltd announced today the launch of its patented USB marketing product – Vizkey – for the Android platform. The Vizkey is a unique USB product that connects with people in the physical world, through Direct Mail, events and POS, and leads them to dynamic online content.

Mobile Internet is expected to overtake desktop Internet use by 2014[1] and to accommodate this trend the Vizkey technology has been developed into mini-USB format; accessible for Android devices powered with an ICS operating system and above. As soon as it is connected with a computer or mobile device, it automatically launches a customised webpage to provide a rapid way to promote a product or service, and to inform the user about useful news or information. With no pop-ups or warnings, the device seamlessly links the physical object with a brands’ dynamic web content.

As people rely on their mobile devices in greater numbers it is important to engage with them directly on these mobile platforms in addition to computers. The Vizkey USB product for PC and Mac platforms has achieved response rates 20 times higher than comparable media, which indicates that consumers are prepared to engage with marketing messages when it is fast and easy to do so. The Vizkey mini-USB product for the Android platform will extend this experience to the mobile world.

Unlike a traditional marketing engagement tool, the Vizkey is flexible, allowing brands to regularly change the content of the destination URL. Each USB device has a unique ID which provides tracking functionality and detailed analytics on usage. The physical form factor of the USB Vizkey is completely customisable - shape, size, materials, and branding. The content and nature of the message on the Vizkey product can be customised too to enable different levels of security, promotional offers, database building or exclusive/personalised content.  The online content, or message to the customer, is run through the Visible Computing Cloud, so there are no issues with memory storage or security. The device itself is completely secure, as it is read-only with no write capability.

Brands already engaging with the Vizkey USB product include:

Moët Hennessy – for multiple brand engagement campaigns
Trip Advisor – in multiple languages for multi-country distribution
Groupon – for experiential projects (see case study below)
Institute of Fundraising – for their personalised sponsor-a-child compassion packs
Sky – for their customised welcome packs

Jason Greenspan, Managing Director of Visible Computing says: “With mobile Internet evolving so fast, the Vizkey mini-USB product gives brands the power to engage with consumers on-the-move as well as at their desk. As the product is dynamic it gives brands the opportunity to enhance and develop content, so the product isn’t tied to ideas and concepts born yesterday.”

Case study: Groupon

Groupon employed Visible Computing to connect with a specific demographic – female city workers. Visible Computing developed an experiential programme that would target women at mainline city stations with a bespoke Groupon Vizkey; a USB device that connects with people in the physical world and leads them to dedicated online content via their PC or Mac. Although the activity looked like a traditional leaflet distribution campaign, the Groupon handouts themselves actually contained the Vizkey technology. Women who were not already Groupon users were given the Vizkey device. The USB took the user directly to the Groupon registration area where they were encouraged to register. Following this, every day that the Vizkey was connected with the PC or Mac it took the user directly to their relevant city deals, without the need to submit their email or even type in the website address. By using Vizkey, Groupon was able to track the customer journey, and for the first time engage with people in the physical world and see how many of them were motivated enough to engage with the brand via its digital channel. The campaign data demonstrated a 24% response rate, with a 8.85% click to conversion rate, which is over 20 times more effective than any other marketing promotion that Groupon had operated.
